Ford Motor Company of Southern Africa has rolled out a new optional “Sport Pack” for XL derivatives in its locally assembled Ranger bakkie line-up.
The fresh Sport Pack adds a gloss-black grille (replacing the standard flat-black version), with the 16-inch silver alloy wheels upgraded to 17-inch “Panther” items in gloss-black, complete with 265/65 R17 tyres.
The package – which adds R16 500 to the price of the chosen XL variant – furthermore includes a tubular sports bar over the load bay as well as a black rear bumper. Judging by the accompanying images, a subtle "Sport" decal for the tailgate is also part of the kit.
The Blue Oval brand has also added new dealer-fitted black side steps (which it says “greatly improve” access to the cabin) to the options list, priced at R5 050.
In addition, Ranger XL models can now be ordered with Ford’s 8,0-inch colour touchscreen infotainment system rather than the standard Sync 1 unit with a four-inch LCD. This brings Apple CarPlay and Android Auto functionality and two USB slots to the table (though does without embedded voice recognition and navigation) for the price of R6 080.
As a reminder, Ranger XL variants are powered by Ford’s 2,2-litre, four-cylinder turbodiesel engine, generating 118 kW and 385 N.m. The XL line-up include single-cab, SuperCab and double-cab derivatives with a mix of two- and four-wheel-drive options and six-speed manual and automatic transmissions.
“The Ranger XL is our value-oriented offering that suits a wide variety of applications, from the hard-working single cab with its spacious loadbox, the practical SuperCab that provides additional storage capacity behind the front seats or the comfortable double cab that is equally suited to business or family use,” said Doreen Mashinini, general manager for marketing at Ford SA.
“With the addition of the Sport Pack option, we’re giving the Ranger XL more upmarket flair while enhancing its day-to-day practicality. Customers now also have the choice of upgrading from the entry-level Sync 1 system to a touchscreen infotainment system with an integrated eight-inch display that provides improved connectivity, ease of use and driving safety,” she added.
