Ford Motor Company of Southern Africa has expanded its Tourneo Custom range, handing the bus the Ranger bakkie’s 2,0-litre single-turbo diesel engine and a six-speed automatic transmission.
The oil-burning 2,0 SiT engine is offered in mid-tier Trend (R700 200) and flagship Limited (R740 900) form, where it drives the front wheels via the Blue Oval brand’s six-speed automatic gearbox. In the Trend derivative, the four-pot makes 96 kW and 385 N.m, while the wick has been turned up to 136 kW and 415 N.m in the top-spec Limited variant (for the record, this engine makes 132 kW and 420 N.m in the Everest and Ranger).
Interestingly, both new versions of this engine feature the company’s AdBlue system, which uses a non-toxic urea/water-based solution to convert nitrogen oxide emissions in the exhaust gas into nitrogen and water. Take note, though, low-sulphur grade diesel (50 ppm or lower) is required in combination with these engines.
In addition, the newcomers feature updates to their cabins, including an “all-new dashboard” and instrument panel layout plus a fresh three-spoke steering wheel. The Limited model furthermore gains the Sync3 infotainment system, complete with an eight-inch touchscreen (and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto functionality).
The new Trend derivative, meanwhile, features a four-inch screen running a “simpler version” of Sync3. Both models boast as many as eight USB ports scattered throughout the cabin. New 17-inch alloy wheels also ship standard on the new variants.
As with the 2,2 TDCi manual models, the new 2,0 SiT derivatives are covered by a four-year/120 000 km warranty and a six-year/90 000 km service plan (with intervals of 15 000 km).
