Pricing! New Mini Convertible Sidewalk heading to South Africa…

By: CAR magazine

The new Mini Convertible Sidewalk is due to launch in South Africa in the second quarter of 2020 but the BMW-backed firm’s local arm has already published pricing.

The soft-top Sidewalk edition will be offered locally in two familiar forms: Cooper and Cooper S.

So, what sort of cash are we looking at here? Well, the Cooper Convertible Sidewalk, which employs a 100 kW turbocharged 1,5-litre, three-cylinder petrol engine, is priced at R543 500 (or some R69 000 more expensive than the standard model).

Meanwhile, the Cooper S Convertible Sidewalk will start at R608 500 (a premium of R59 000 over the model on which it is based), using the brand’s 141 kW turbocharged 2,0-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine. Both feature a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission as standard, although the more powerful variant can also be optionally equipped with a sports transmission with paddle shifters.

So, what sets the Sidewalk apart from the standard models? Well, the most obvious change is the use of Deep Laguna metallic paint (although White Silver metallic and Thunder Grey metallic will also be offered) along with model-specific bonnet stripes with contrasting edges. The side-mirror caps are painted in body colour.

The Sidewalk furthermore gains its own version of Mini’s fully automatic textile softtop, featuring an “artistically woven-in arrow graphic”. There are also model-specific 17-inch alloys (in a two-tone “Scissor Spoke” design) as well as indicator bezels on the flanks bearing the “Sidewalk” model designation.

Inside, you’ll find brushed aluminium doorsills bearing “Sidewalk” lettering, along with anthracite-coloured leather surfaces with contrasting seams and piping, a treatment repeated on the floor mats. In addition, the leather sports steering wheel features the “Sidewalk” logo, while backlit decorative trim has been added to the passenger side.
