The facelifted Honda Civic sedan has arrived in South Africa sporting what the local arm of the Japanese firm describes as “a series of improvements and upgrades”.

As before, the local tenth-generation Civic line-up comprises four derivatives (in addition to the Civic Type R hot hatch), with the choice of two four-cylinder petrol engines.

The first is a naturally aspirated 1,8-litre powerplant (with 104 kW and 174 N.m), while the second is Honda’s 1,5-litre turbocharged mill (offering 127 kW and 220 N.m). All four variants employ a continuously variable transmission as standard.

So, what’s changed? Well, up front you’ll find a redesigned grille, a bolder bumper and various new styling details, while round back you’ll notice new chrome trim. In addition, chrome trim has been added to the front of the 1,8 Comfort model, as well as around the foglamps of the 1,8 Elegance and 1,5T Executive derivatives.

Furthermore, Honda has rolled out new alloy wheel designs. The 1,8 Comfort boasts double-spoke 16-inch items in “Shark Grey”, while the 1,8 Elegance and 1,5T Executive are fitted with 17-inch wheels finished in “Dark Grey”. The flagship 1,5T Sport, meanwhile, gains 17-inch alloys finished in “Berlina Black”.

Honda claims to have made “further improvements” to the Civic’s noise insulation while also “refining” various cabin finishes. A seven-inch display functions as the centrepiece of the infotainment system and is compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto (on Elegance, Sport and Executive models). Some touchscreen buttons have been replaced by physical controls, while a volume knob is also present.

As before, a five-year/200 000 km warranty and a five-year/90 000 km service plan ship standard. Take note that the service intervals are 15 000 km for 1,8 models and 10 000 km for the 1,5T derivatives.
