Pricing! Volvo SA quietly adds auto version of base T3-badged XC40

By: CAR magazine

Back in August 2018, Volvo South Africa added the new T3 base model – offered exclusively in manual guise – to its XC40 range. Now the local arm of the Swedish firm has quietly introduced an eight-speed automatic version of its entry-level SUV.

Slotting in below the all-wheel-drive, 2,0-litre, four-cylinder (D4 and T5) variants, the T3-badged XC40 employs a turbocharged 1,5-litre, three-cylinder petrol unit driving the front wheels.

Interestingly, in the new automatic models, the three-pot has been detuned slightly, offering 110 kW as opposed to the 120 kW enjoyed by the manual derivatives. Peak torque, though, is unchanged at 265 N.m. Volvo says the Geartronic-equipped T3 will hit 100 km/h from standstill in 10,1 seconds, which is eight-tenths off the pace set by the manual version.

As has become customary at Volvo, three trim levels will be offered: Momentum, Inscription and R-Design. Check out pricing for the T3 models below…
