Audi South Africa says “VIP customer deliveries” of its refreshed R8 V10 Performance have officially started ahead of the local market launch.

While Ingolstadt’s updated V10-powered supercar technically hits the market only at the start of April 2021, the first local deliveries have already taken place as part of what the company calls its “pre-launch strategy”. Audi SA says it wants to “reward” select customers for their loyalty to the brand.

The German firm’s local arm furthermore confirmed pricing (which we published back in early November 2020) for the two-strong R8 range, with the R8 Coupé V10 Performance starting at R3 336 000 and the R8 Spyder V10 Performance coming in from R3 592 500.

As a reminder, the naturally aspirated 5,2-litre V10 in the updated R8 generates 449 kW and 560 N.m in SA-spec form. This results in a sprint from zero to 100 km/h in a claimed 3,2 seconds for the coupé and one-tenth slower for the soft-top model (top speed is listed as 331 km/h and 329 km/h, respectively). As before, drive is delivered to all four wheels via a seven-speed S tronic transmission.

Revealed as long ago as October 2018, the facelifted R8 furthermore benefits from modifications to its suspension and steering systems, resulting in what Audi calls “even more stability and precision”. The company also claims the drive select dynamic handling system modes have been “even more sharply” separated from one other.

In terms of styling, the updated R8’s grille boasts a wider, flatter line, while thick bars divide up the large air inlets, and three slits at the front edge of the bonnet provide a nod to the past. The new front splitter is also wider, while under the bonnet the air filter is sited under a three-part cover, offered in a choice of plastic or carbon-fibre.

The high-gloss black styling package ships standard, while the side-mirror caps and sideblade feature a carbon finish. New Kemora Grey and Ascari Blue exterior paint colours have been added to the range as well.
