While we published pricing for the facelifted 5 Series range as long ago as August 2020, BMW Group South Africa has now released official details.

Interestingly, the prices have increased slightly since we first spotted the refreshed 5 Series, including the new M550i xDrive variant and the range-topping M5 Competition, on BMW’s local configurator.

The line-up will comprise three variants at launch, plus the aforementioned M5 Competition. As a reminder, the 530d and 540i have been removed from the local mix.

The range kicks off with the 520d, now priced from R935 996. As a reminder, this derivative’s 2,0-litre, four-cylinder turbodiesel engine offers an unchanged 140 kW and 400 N.m to the rear wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission.

Next up is the 530i, which now starts at R938 342 and is powered by a turbocharged 2,0-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine offering 185 kW and 350 N.m to the rear axle, likewise through an eight-speed auto.

The M550i xDrive joins the range from R1 432 238, with its twin-turbo 4,4-litre V8 petrol engine sending 390 kW and 750 N.m to all four corners (the rear-biased all-wheel-drive system works with an M Sport differential) via an eight-speed automatic transmission.

BMW says that’s enough for a sprint from standstill to 100 km/h in just 3,8 seconds and an electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h. The M550i xDrive furthermore features a range of model-specific design cues, including the M Sport package, a bootlid spoiler and a "Cerium Grey" metallic finish for the side-mirror caps, grille surround, inlays in the front air intakes and model lettering.

Finally, the updated M5 Competition now kicks off at R2 207 824 and again employs a twin-turbo 4,4‑litre V8 engine, sending an unchanged 460 kW and 750 N.m to all four corners via an eight‑speed automatic transmission. As you’d expect, it’s just as quick as before, hitting 100 km/h from standstill in a claimed 3,3 seconds and reaching the 200 km/h mark in a claimed 10,8 seconds. Thanks to the fitment of the M Driver’s Package, top speed is still a heady 305 km/h.
