The refreshed Suzuki DZire has been introduced in South Africa, gaining updated styling and extra standard equipment.

We should point out, though, that only the GL variant in five-speed manual form (for R196 900) is currently available locally, with the base GA derivative and the automated manual version of the GL scheduled to arrive “soon”.

The revised Dzire, which is effectively a sedan version of the popular Swift hatchback, gains a new grille and front bumper. The grille is finished in silver on the GA variant and in chrome on GL derivatives, with the latter also gaining chrome bezels for the front foglamps.

Suzuki Auto SA has furthermore added two fresh exterior paint colour options in the form of Premium Silver Metallic and Phoenix Red Pearl. Inside, the Japanese firm has introduced “new-look” upholstery, which it describes as “hard-wearing and durable”.

So, what about that extra kit? Well, GL variants upgrade to new 15-inch alloy wheels, which replace the old steel wheels with plastic covers. All models furthermore gain an electronic stability programme as standard.

As before, all derivatives in the Indian-built DZire range feature two airbags, ABS with EBD, emergency brake assistance and rear-sited IsoFix child-seat anchors.

The naturally aspirated 1,2-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine is also carried over, offering the front axle an unchanged 61 kW and 113 N.m. A two-year/30 000 km service plan and a “promotional” five-year/200 000 km warranty are standard, too.
