Meet the new Renault Twingo GT, a slightly hotter version of the French automaker’s tiny rear-wheel drive city car.
This new GT model features an 898 cm3 turbocharged three-cylinder that – thanks to a revised air intake system and modified engine mapping – has been tuned to deliver some 80 kW and 170 N.m torque. The brand has yet to reveal any official acceleration figures.
Renault says that new gear ratios “further contribute to the new car’s sprightly, free-revving performance”.
The Twingo GT’s chassis has also come in for some work, with the suspension being revised (and lowered) and the ESP gaining a model-specific calibration. This new model also features variable-rate steering.
What sets the GT apart from regular models in terms of exterior design? Well, it boasts 17-inch wheels, lateral air intakes, a twin exhaust tail-pipe and a new orange body colour (as well as a smattering of decals).
If orange isn’t your preferred hue, the Twingo GT will also be available in Lunar Grey, Diamond Black and Crystal White. Inside, the little warm hatch will feature orange trim details, RS-badged doorsills, aluminium pedals, and an alloy gear-knob.
Unfortunately, the chances of the Renault Twingo GT coming to South Africa are exceedingly slim, since even the standard model isn’t offered on our shores. Pity, since this little GT looks like plenty of fun.
