Porsche has revealed its new 911 Targa 4S Heritage Design Edition, complete with design elements from the 1950s and early ‘60s.
The Zuffenhausen-based firm says this is the first of four “collector's pieces” under its newly launched Heritage Design strategy, which was previewed by 2019’s 911 Speedster.
The company says “historical exterior and interior design elements have been reinterpreted and combined with the latest technology in a special limited edition” from Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur. Already available to order, just 992 examples will be built, fittingly matching this generation of 911’s internal model series code.
“With the Heritage Design models, we are evoking memories of the ‘50s, ‘60s, ‘70s and ‘80s in customers and fans alike. No brand can translate these elements into the modern day as well as Porsche and, in this way, we are fulfilling the wishes of our customers. We are also establishing a new product line that represents the lifestyle dimension in our product strategy with these exclusive special editions,” said Porsche chairman Oliver Blume.
So, what sets this newcomer apart? Well, the model you see above features Cherry Metallic paintwork (four other exterior colours are available) combined with gold logos and white livery.
There’s also a “Porsche Heritage” badge on the engine lid grille at the rear, which harks back to the one awarded when a Porsche 356 reached 100 000 km. In addition, you’ll find a 1963 Porsche Crest on the bonnet, steering wheel, wheel centres and key, with the motif also embossed on the head restraints and key pouch. The special model ships standard on 20-/21-inch Carrera Exclusive Design wheels with “classic-look” brake callipers finished in black.
Inside, you’ll notice the retro two-tone leather interior, as well as corduroy upholstery on the seats and door trims, along with a green-illuminated rev counter and stopwatch. A metal badge on the facia’s trim panel depicts the individual limited edition number.
As you’ll no doubt have already figured out, this first Heritage Design model is based on the fresh-faced 911 Targa 4S, powered by a 331 kW twin-turbo 3,0-litre flat-six engine. Fitted with an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission, this powerplant will shove the newcomer from standstill to 100 km/h in less than 3,6 seconds before topping out at 304 km/h.
