Think your new Toyota Hilux could do with a bit more oomph? Well, a South African tuning company says it has the answer, in the form of new performance upgrades for both the 2,4 GD-6 and 2,8 GD-6 derivatives.
As always, bear in mind that aftermarket work such as this will most certainly void your warranty with Toyota South Africa Motors. Don’t say we didn’t warn you.
If you’re still determined to squeeze more power out of your new Japanese bakkie, then Steve’s Auto Clinic (SAC) reckons its Unichip Plug and Play package – which it bills as a “revolutionary performance upgrade” – is what you’re after.
With the package installed, the tuner says peak outputs of the 2,4 GD-6 model rise from the stock 110 kW and 400 N.m to a healthier 135 kW and 480 N.m.
Meanwhile, two stages are available for the 2,8 GD-6 model, which makes 130 kW and 450 N.m as standard. SAC says the first takes peak outputs to 145 kW and 505 N.m, while fitting the “Revolution” chip hikes the figures to 170 kW and 575 N.m.
