BMW is one of the companies that has a long history in South Africa, both as an importer as well as a manufacturer. Over the years we have seen several special editions that has been tuned or adapted for local fans, one of the last being the E92 M3 Frozen Edition.
The latest addition is called the “Pure Metal M5”. Under the bonnet is the same 4,4-litre, turbocharged V8 engine, but it now delivers 441 kW and 700 N.m, up from the standard car’s 412 kW and 680 N.m (Competition Package: 423 kW/680 N.m), which results in a claimed acceleration time to 100 km/h in 3,9 seconds, and a top speed of 305 km/h. M Carbon Ceramic brakes come as standard.
According to BMW the increas in these numbers are owing to “calculated modifications to the engine management system and an increase in charge pressure”.
This model also incorporates the Competition Package, which means it can really be seen as a natural step up from that model. Only 20 units will be imported, each featuring a “Pure Metal M5” and “1/20” inscription. The car will be priced at R1 948 000 (excl. CO2 Tax).
However, don’t think these engine outputs are unique to South Africa. Several months ago BMW released the “30 Jahre” edition, which offered the same delivery.
