In the 991 Porsche 911 range, the company never released a GT2 model. However, it seems the company will be unveiling a rear-wheel-drive model based on the Turbo S towards the end of this year.
As these pictures suggest, a test mule is already undergoing cold weather testing. As was the case with the manic 997 GT2 RS, it seems this test mule features a carbon-fibre luggage compartment lid. However, sometimes the test engineers fit test mules with selected parts to confuse the world’s media and spy photographers.
Obviously there are no official details available on this upcoming sports car. Based on previous GT2 models, we can safely assume that the reworked 3,8-litre, flat-six engine will develop around 450 kW, up from the Turbo S’s 427 kW. The torque figure is also likely to increase from 750 N.m to close to 800 N.m. Connected to Porsche’s PDK transmission, the dash to 100 km/h will be close to 3,1 seconds, and top speed around 330 km/h.
Being only rear-wheel drive versus the Turbo’s all-wheel-drive system, the GT2 will also be lighter than the Turbo. It will be interesting to see how much lighter the GT2 will be compared with the GT3.
