Subaru’s STI division will be producing a limited run of the WRX named the S207 with its main focus being drivability and enjoyment. The S207 will provide the WRX with an improved engine and suspension as well as distinctive interior and exterior upgrades.
Thanks to the engine upgrades the S207 will produce 241 kW and 431 N.m of torque with additional handling capabilities thanks to a flexible tower bar, DampMatic® II front suspension with adjustable damping and front-rear active torque vectoring. A more significant front splitter will also aid the S207’s handling characteristics.
The stopping capabilities of the S207 are also enhanced with the help of Brembo’s 6-pot brakes in front and 4-pot brakes at the rear (both featuring monoblock opposed-piston brake calipers and drilled rotors) as well as 255/35R19 tyres.
If the standard S207 looks too tame for you then Subaru might have you covered with its S207 NBR Challenge Pack which is a more track (apparently Nürburgring) focused variant. The S207 NBR features a dry carbon rear spoiler and an ornament that celebrates Subaru’s victory in the SP3T class at the 2015 Nurburgring 24-Hour Race. All upgrades on the S207 NBR seem to be purely cosmetic.
With only 400 units of the S207 and 200 units of the S207 NBR being made available to the public these will be very limited editions as the name suggests. Whether they will be made available in South Africa is not yet certain, but the brand has confirmed that it will be releasing a lot more STI influenced models.
Subaru’s head honcho Yoshio Hirakawa confirmed earlier this week that the brand will be releasing four new STI versions to the line-up which is a strong move considering that Mitsubishi has now scrapped the Evolution for good.
We aren’t sure whether the S207 is one of the four aforementioned, but so far, Hirakawa has suggested a possible electrically-powered turbocharger for the Subaru BRZ to provide the car with the extra power that fans have been demanding. He also says that the brand will be developing its CVT to feel more like a manual transmission.
