Subaru has taken the wraps off the oddly named BRZ Series.Yellow (yes, that period – sans space – is meant to be there, rather weirdly).
The Japanese automaker bills it as “the most exciting BRZ to date, with its striking colour and performance upgrades”.
Here’s where we would have liked to point out just how exciting this special edition BRZ – which is limited to 500 units – really is. But we’d be fibbing. You see, pretty much all that sets it apart from the recently updated standard model is its yellow paintwork.
Okay, it also has black alloy wheels, black badging, and black side-mirror caps. And inside, there’s black leather and Alcantara upholstery with contrasting yellow stitching. The front seatbacks are also embroidered with a yellow BRZ logo, while floor mats with yellow stitching and a silver-embroidered BRZ logo are also included.
But what about the oh-so-promising “performance upgrades” mentioned above? Well, don’t get too excited…
The Subaru BRZ Series.Yellow (that rogue full stop really is vexing) features the same so-called “Performance Package” announced with the recent facelift, which means it gains little more than Brembo brakes and Sachs shock absorbers.
So, sadly, no power hike to the 153 kW/212 N.m 2,0-litre naturally aspirated Boxer engine.
Still, since the Subaru BRZ is no longer offered in South Africa, we guess local fans won’t be too disappointed that we’re missing out on this altogether unexciting special edition model. Unless, of course, they have a thing for yellow…
