First shown at the 2015 Shanghai motor show, this GLC Coupe was revealed only a year later with minimal design changes to the production model. This coupe adds to the relatively new line of crossovers introduced to the Mercedes design house with the GLE Coupe making its debut last year.
The design of the GLC Coupe aims to combine a dynamic and compact persona by making it eight centimeters longer and four centimeters lower than the standard GLC. It has a restyled dropping roofline and features a single-louvred diamond radiator grille as seen on most of the new models being released by Mercedes.
In an attempt to provide a sporty SUV, much like its competitors, Mercedes will offer the GLC Coupe with sports steering, sports suspension, DYNAMIC select, and a 4MATIC permanent all-wheel drive system with a 9G-TRONIC automatic transmission as standard to create an enhanced ride comfort with an extra edge of sportiness.
For those who wish to use the GLC Coupe in a more adventurous setting, it will be made available with a new steel sprung suspension which forms part of the Dynamic Body Control option. Drivers who wish for a purely comfortable experience can opt for the tried and tested air suspension found in the Air Body Control package.
The GLC Coupe will sport a 3,0-litre V6 Biturbo as the most powerful engine, while making use of the GLC 43 nameplate, producing 270 kW and 520 N.m of torque allowing it to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in a mere 5 seconds. The GLC also comes in various, less powerful, diesel and petrol models.
For those who wish to go green the GLC Coupe will be available with a plugin hybrid powertrain called the GLC350 e 4Matic. This model will make use of the 2,0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine mated to an electric motor (capable of achieving an independent range of 30 km) to provided a combined power output of 235 kW giving it a 0-100 km/h time of 5,9 seconds. Together with this the GLC 350 e will emit 59‑64 g CO2/km from the exhausts.
For diehard AMG fans who wish to grab the attention from passer-byes. the GLC Coupe will also be available with the exclusive EDITION 1 trim which will make use of an AMG-line exterior, 20-inch rims, bi-colour leather upholstery and an attractive designo paint finish.
No word on when the GLC Coupe will be released to international markets or whether it will reach South African shores.
