The Volkswagen Cross Up! may have arrived in South Africa only earlier this year, but the little five-door model has actually been zipping about the global stage since 2013. And that means it’s ripe for a facelift.
This, then, is the updated Cross Up!, which has just gone on sale in Europe. The changes are subtle, although VW curiously states that it “comes with off-road suspension” in addition to the 15 mm hike in ride-height.
The diminutive cross-hatch also features new 16-inch “Kalamata” alloys, model-specific front and rear bumpers, colour contrasting side-mirrors and black trim along its flanks. Silver anodised roof-rails and high-gloss chrome-plated strips on front and rear are also present and correct.
If you look (really) closely, you may spot the redesigned grille, new front fog-lamps and ever-so-slightly different headlight treatment. Volkswagen says it has furthermore added three new paint colours to the range (gold metallic, blueberry metallic and coral red).
In Europe, the facelifted Cross Up! can be had with the same 55 kW 1,0-litre three-cylinder currently offered in South Africa, or a 1,0-litre turbo-triple worth 66 kW.
Volkswagen SA says the Cross Up! will be launched locally in February 2017.
