On its own the Nissan Micra isn’t exactly what we would call sporty but with the new Micra Cup, Nissan plans to change that assumption. the Micra Cup will be available in two forms; a road going version which will feature purely visual upgrades and a track based version with some mechanical enhancements for usage in the Canadian based Nissan Micra Cup.
The street bound Micra Cup will be limited to 250 cars and will feature body graphics to pay homage to the racecar’s exterior along with a set of eight-spoke, 15-inch alloy wheels. To cater for the Micra Cup purists there will be an individually numbered plaque signed by Olivier Bédard, the reigning champion in the Nissan Micra Cup competition.
The motorsport edition will receive no increase in power output as it will retain the American market’s 81 kW 1,6-litre four cylinder engine. The Micra Cup will receive an enhanced braking system, a stiffer suspension and a racing exhaust. To make it lighter the interior cabin has been stripped our and equipped with a roll-cage and bucket seats with a five point harness.
It is highly unlikely that the Micra Cup will come to South Africa but if you own a face-lifted Micra and appreciate this look then all you will need is a set of Minilites and some red and black vinyl to do the trick.
