The Suzuki Ignis, a small crossover that has been on sale in Japan for a while now (and was actually revealed as long ago as the Tokyo Motor Show last year), is set to make its European debut at the upcoming Paris Motor Show.
And it seems it could eventually make its way to South Africa, too.
Suzuki Auto SA tells us that it is “studying” the business case for bringing the new Ignis to our shores and, if all goes well, it should arrive in 2017.
The diminutive crossover employs what the Japanese automaker describes as “a rigid, lightweight new-generation platform”.
The brand’s “Smart Hybrid Vehicle” technology, which allows extra assistance through an electric motor and provides a battery recharge function too, will also be on offer. Although the engine range has yet to be confirmed, it is all but certain to include Suzuki’s new 1,2-litre Dualjet mill.
Interestingly, the European-spec model is said to be slightly longer than the Japanese derivative (which itself is only 3,6m long).
A facelifted version of the Suzuki SX4 will also be on display in Paris, although Suzuki Auto SA says it has no details on when this model will become available locally.
