Begging the question of high-performance and ludicrously powered single-cab bakkies, this Ford F-150 Raptor comes with a whopping amount of power and an equally eyewatering price tag.

This won’t be something you could walk into a local Ford dealership and drive off in because it has been created by a Houston-based aftermarket bakkie tuner. The justification behind this ludicrous two-seat bakkie is simply because Ford never did. Despite being in production since 2009, the F-150 Raptor, has never been offered in a single cab configuration. That is where PaxPower comes in and despite being founded in 2018, has prepared a batch of these single cabs for Al Jazirah, the first Ford dealer in Saudi Arabia.
The PaxPower Gen 3 Ford F-150 Raptor Single Cab is based on XLTs equipped with 4×4 and the 5,0-liter Coyote engine. This configuration is priced at approximately R1 million. However, PaxPower has not provided a specific cost estimate for their conversion but it would expectedly be a few hundred thousand rand worth of upgrades.

The single-cab Raptor is highlighted by its reduced weight, approximately 800 kg less than a stock Raptor R crew cab. This weight reduction contributes to enhanced performance in acceleration, handling, and off-road capabilities. The conversion retains the Raptor’s essence, including Method wheels, 37-inch tires, OEM suspension components, and Fox Live Valve shocks.

The interior is not overlooked, featuring Raptor-specific elements such as the steering wheel, seat covers, and additional upper foam. Exterior modifications include Mustang-style racing stripes, a Borla exhaust system with black-painted tips, shortened crew cab side steps, and a body-colour bed cover chosen by Al Jazirah.
Doing all of the talking on the road or off of it is the 5,0-liter Coyote V8 engine, originally rated at 298 kW by Ford, now produces 578 kW with the addition of a 3,0-liter Whipple Stage 2 supercharger, priced at over $9 000 (R170 000) alone. The Raptor bakkie is further enhanced with Addictive Desert Designs front and rear bumpers, creating a comprehensive and high-performance package.
While this is certainly a niche product aimed at very few affluent buyers as a lifestyle toy, would better equipped and more powerful single-cab bakkies ever become viable in South Africa?
