The Toyota Hilux GR Sport seems to have returned to the Thai market, with two styling derivatives this time. Like the previous model, additions to this trim are merely cosmetic with a more comprehensive list of standard features.
The Thai-arm claims that the new Toyota Hilux GR Sport is a tribute to the motorsport community and assures that the two models have undergone changes under the watchful eye of Toyota Gazoo that will appeal to consumers who want a professional experience from behind the wheel. The GR Sport is further described to be a product that defines the spirit of sport, thanks to technology that has been developed by performance arm’s experts while working on the track.
So, what design elements have been added to the new Toyota Hilux GR Sport? From the rear quarter, a shark fin antenna, black sports bar and 18-inch alloy wheels with red brake callipers can be noticed while the front quarter shows off a new black grille, wheel arch decorations and unique design stickers.
For the 4×2 Toyota Hilux GR Sport, unique sticker designs, 17-inch alloy wheels with red brake callipers, LED head- and taillamps an all-around skirt and a shark fin antenna have been fitted.
Within the cabin, a leather steering wheel with a red decorative stripe, steering mounted paddle shifters, perforated semi-suede leather seats, a unique push start button, sporty accelerator and brake pedals and a unique TFT screen in the instrument cluster have been included.
Both Toyota Hilux GR Sport models are available exclusively with the brand’s turbodiesel 2,8-litre four-cylinder GD-6 mill which delivers 150 kW and 500 N.m of torque. This can be mated to a 2×4 or 4×4 drivetrain.
For the 4×4 model, Toyota has added a set of monotube shock absorbers to provide the double-cab bakkie with improved stability and confidence, even during high speed cornering. The 2×4 model gains a newly tuned suspension that is height adjustable by up to 23 mm for those looking to experience a tight, firm and sporty experience.
Additional safety has been provided, too. Both Toyota Hilux GR Sport models come standard with a rear parking camera boasting rear cross traffic alert, blind-spot monitoring, pre-collision detection, lane departure warning and adaptive cruise control.
No details regarding a local introduction for either of these models have been confirmed by Toyota South Africa as yet.
