A Toyota Land Cruiser 70 Series Special Edition has been confirmed for South Africa to celebrate the moniker’s 70-year milestone of successful sales. While similar in execution to the example that was revealed for the Australian market, this will be an offering that is unique to SA.
Development of this Toyota Land Cruiser 70 Series Special Edition is still underway but the South African arm of the Japanese manufacturer confirms that it will be introduced by the fourth quarter of this year and that customers can register their interest at local dealerships.
For context, the aforementioned Australian Toyota Land Cruiser 70 Series Special Edition will be limited to 600 units (320 double-cabs, 200 single cabs and 80 SUVs) and feature a number of unique and bold styling enhancements that accentuate the product’s rock-solid off-road reputation.
The announcement of this Toyota Land Cruiser 70 Series Special Edition comes just days after a rumour suggested that the range is due for a conclusive upgrade to align it with modern emissions and safety standards.
Further celebrating the success of the Land Cruiser name in South Africa is a number of updates for the Prado which will be entering dealerships as of this month. This includes a new stylish set of 19-inch alloy wheels that’ll be fitted to VX and VX-L trim models which will be paired with a set of 265/55 R19 tyres. TX-trim models will inherit a reverse tilt mirror for added convenience.
On the sales front, Toyota confirms that the Land Cruiser 300 is now available for purchase. The brand goes on to state that the Land Cruiser brand resonates very strongly with South Africans, as evidenced by the continued sales success of the utility-focused 70 Series, family-oriented Prado and flagship LC variants. The 70 Series registered an impressive 251 sales in July 2021, despite very difficult operating conditions while Prado in turn racked up 69 sales.
