Capitalising on the successful racing name, Toyota has decided to give the RAV4 GR Sport touches for the European market. The model is unconfirmed for South African at this point but it would make a good addition to the popular lineup.
Following a similar recipe to the Corolla GR Sport, the latest RAV4 has been given an exterior overhaul with minor tweaks underneath to provide it with a “more engaging driving experience.” This includes a retuned suspension with stiffer springs and sport shock absorbers.

The bulk of the upgrades exists in the exterior where wheel arch trim, side mouldings and the door garnish have been finished in piano black. Available in either hybrid or plug-in hybrid powertrain, the GR Sport touches differ between the two with the former including a front spoiler finished in dark silver and the plug-in alternative opting for a gunmetal texture and hue.
The GR badging now sits on the fog light bezels while new 19-inch alloys that have been created using “ultra-precise line-cutting technique” sit on each corner of the SUV. The gloss black wheels will be contrasted by pinstripe detailing machined onto them.
Moving inside the model, bespoke and sporty seats ensconce the front passenger and driver with an upholstery similar to suede while the bolsters are finished in synthetic leather. GR badging has been included on the headrests with silver stitching keeping the different materials together, further complimented on the steering wheel and gear shifter.
The 2023 model year RAV4 with GR Sport touches also includes Toyota’s latest 12,3-inch driver’s display and 10,5-inch infotainment screen. The model will go on sale in Europe before the end of the year but it remains unconfirmed for the South African market, despite the nameplate’s popularity.
