Unveiled at SEMA 2026, the Toyota RAV4 Woodland Plug-in Hybrid Concept features retro-inspired paintwork, raised suspension, and trail-ready accessories.

At the 2026 SEMA Show, Toyota revealed a broader vision of everyday adventure through a new family of Woodland concept models. The showcase reimagines how electrified and family-focused vehicles can be modified for life beyond urban environments. Included in the catalogue is the Toyota RAV4 Woodland Plug-in Hybrid Concept. The Japanese brand’s US arm designed this model for people who view exploration as a lifestyle. Based on the brand’s PHEV system, the latest RAV4 Woodland concept highlights Toyota’s utility, efficiency, and capability that caters to urban and long-distance usage.
The Toyota RAV4 Woodland embraces a retro visual identity
Across the new showcase, CALTY Design Research established a unified visual identity that balances exploration with practical usability. The RAV4 Woodland Concept features distinct exterior appointments that draw inspiration from the automaker’s adventuring heritage. The concept features Horizon Blue paintwork, borrowed from classic 1960s models such as the Stout, Crown, and Corona. Contrasting two-tone finishes on the bonnet and roof complement this hue.
Purpose-built equipment for trail readiness
CALTY equipped the midsize SUV with a dedicated lift kit for enhanced ground clearance, alongside prominent over-fenders. Rugged satin-black wheels fitted with all-terrain tyres allow the plug-in hybrid to tackle harsh surfaces effortlessly. Meanwhile, heavy-duty roof racks and integrated crossbars increase gear capacity. These practical additions ensure adventure enthusiasts can carry more of what matters on extended trail trips.

Electrified performance for modern exploration
The South African specification RAV4 PHEV E-Four combines a 2.5-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine with dual electric motors (one on each axle). The setup produces a combined system output of 225 kW through Toyota’s intelligent AWD system, with power delivered via a continuously variable transmission (CVT) featuring dedicated EV, HV, Auto EV/HV, and Battery Charge driving modes. A 22.7 kWh lithium-ion battery pack provides an all-electric driving range of up to 142 km, enabling zero-emissions daily commuting, while total fuel consumption is rated between 1.3 and 1.6 L/100 km when fully charged. Acceleration from 0-100 km/h takes a claimed 5.8 seconds.
The flagship derivative includes 20-inch alloy wheels, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 10.5-inch infotainment display, and Toyota Safety Sense 4.0. At R1 043 900, the plug-in hybrid includes a three-year/100 000 km vehicle warranty, an eight-year/160 000 km hybrid battery warranty, and a six-service/90 000 km service plan.

Toyota stresses that this concept represents a special project prototype vehicle. Engineers modified the SUV using custom parts and accessories that are not currently available from dealers. These modifications may void vehicle warranties, negatively affect safety and performance, or render the vehicle non-street legal. Nevertheless, the Toyota RAV4 Woodland Concept provides an inspiring vision of where everyday SUV design might head next.
