The 2.0-litre, four-cylinder turbodiesel engine employed by the 420d derivatives churn out 140 kW and 400 N.m, which, like the 420i models are sent to the rear axle via an eight-speed automatic transmission. The M Performance, M440i xDrive, model is equipped with BMW’s familiar 3.0-litre inline-six turbocharged petrol unit, which is good for 285 kW and 500 N.m, sent to all four corners via an eight-speed self-shifter.

Updated BMW i4 Gran Coupé Price in SA
Priced from R1 346 500 for the eDrive35 M Sport derivative, the refreshed version of the opening gambit to the local i4 Gran Coupé line-up will set you back R53 200 more than the outgoing, pre-facelifted model’s, while the M50 xDrive’s sticker price has increased by R7 100. As standard, both models ship with a two-year/unlimited km vehicle and eight-year/100 000 km battery warranty, and a maintenance plan spanning five years or 100 000 km.
- i4 Gran Coupé eDrive35 M Sport — R1 346 500
- i4 Gran Coupé M50 xDrive — R1 695 000
The eDrive35 M Sport variant rear-mounted single-electric motor setup produces 210 kW and 400 N.m of torque. According to BMW, the rear-wheel-drive i4 Gran Coupé dispatches the obligatory 0-100 km/h sprint in 6.0 seconds, before topping out at 190 km/h. The company claims this derivative can travel up to 483 km when its 67.1 kWh battery pack is fully charged.
Coupled with a 81.1 kWh battery pack, the M50 xDrive’s twin-electric motor arrangement produces peak power and torque outputs of 400 kW and 795 N.m, allowing the M Performance model to sprint to the three-figure marker from a standstill in a claimed 3.9 seconds, before reaching a top speed of 225 km/h. BMW says this all-paw derivative, with its larger-capacity battery pack, can travel up to 510 km on a single full charge.
