The updated Ford Focus has been revealed as a continuation of the brand’s compact offering. The refreshed model bring with it some design highlights, an updated powertrain and new technological features.
The updated Ford Focus introduces an exterior inspired by Ford’s “human-centric” design philosophy. This consists of a new bonnet design that increases the height of the nose and the Ford “blue oval” badge has been relocated from the bonnet lip to the centre of the larger upper grille.
New LED headlamps are standard on all variants and now include integrated foglamp functionality. Five-door and wagon models feature a darkened taillight lens for a premium look, while high-series LED taillamps feature a new internal design with a darker central section and an eye-catching new loop light pattern.
Each facelifted Ford Focus variant adopts unique design details with upper grille and fascia designs reflecting distinct personalities. Connected and Titanium series feature a wide upper grille with a gloss chrome surround, distinguished by horizontal bars and matched by upturning side vents that flow from the lower grille. In addition, Titanium series features a hot-stamped chrome finish to the upper grille bars.
Available with 92 kW and 114 kW power outputs, the Ford Focus 48V mild hybrid 1,0-litre three-cylinder EcoBoost hybrid powertrain is available with a six-speed manual gearbox or a dual-clutch Powershift transmission. Those looking for a more basic powertrain can opt for a 1,0-litre EcoBoost petrol engine with 74 kW and 92 kW power outputs or a 1,5-litre EcoBlue diesel engine is available with 70 kW and 88 kW.
New to the cabin of the Ford Focus is a 13,2-inch central touchscreen. The new system incorporates controls for functions such as heating and ventilation that were previously activated using physical buttons. It also delivers wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, allowing integration between smartphone functions and SYNC 4.
Ford has not confirmed a South African introduction for the updated Focus.
