We’ve seen spy pics and spotted one testing at the Nurburgring… and now comes an official teaser of what’s likely to be the track-focused Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series.
The hardcore “Black Series” models usually appear later on in a Merc model’s lifecycle, but clearly that strategy is different with the AMG GT. Built to take on the Porsche 911 GT3 and new Aston Martin Vantage GT12, the AMG GT’s 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 will be tweaked from the 370 kw of the AMG GT S up to a likely 410 kW. Expect an increase in torque output too, as well as tweaks to the seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.
The Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series will be lighter – around 100 kg is the speculation – thanks to inclusions like a carbon-fibre roof.
Spy pics show a new front splitter, larger front intakes and what look like carbon-fibre louvres channel air over the body. The car will also have bigger wheels, tyres, uprated brakes, and a re-fettled suspension and revised steering.
The launch ETA is likely to be in late 2016.
