Although the sixth generation (T6) Volkswagen Kombi/Caravelle has only been launched in South Africa a few weeks ago, the company has now added more engines to the range. At this stage it seems the engines are only for the overseas’ markets, although they might be heading to local shores later in 2016.
The big news is that a 2,0-litre, TSI turbopetrol engine will join the range in two stages of tune. The lower power delivery unit puts out 110 kW while the top model delivers 150 kW. The latter receives the 7-speed DSG transmission, and the former a 6-speed manual gearbox.
Currently, all the T6 models offered in South Africa are equipped with VW’s TDI and BiTDI 2,0-litre turbodiesel engines, while there is a combination of 5- and 6-speed manual gearboxes and the 7-speed DSG transmission.
Look out for a full road test of the Volkswagen Caravelle in an upcoming issue of CAR.
