Excitement is building among Volkswagen enthusiasts, as the German automaker’s performance arm has teased a new limited-edition hot hatch. The 2023 Volkswagen Golf R 333 Limited Edition is set to make its debut on the 31st of May, and from what little has been revealed so far, it looks like it’s going to be a very special piece of machinery.
The performance arm posted a teaser video to its social media channels, captioned: “May we serve you a little foretaste of what we have in store for you next? This is a small sneak peek of our new limited edition Golf R 333. Are you excited, yet? Mark the 31st of May 2023 in your calendars for the full reveal. Stay tuned!”
While we have to wait until the 31st of May for the official reveal, the teaser provided more than enough clues about what to expect. The first thing that stands out in the teaser video released by Volkswagen R is the bright yellow exterior paint. While this colour is available on some Golf models locally and the GTI in other markets, it has not yet been offered on the Mk8 Golf R. This unique hue is known for turning heads and making a bold statement on the road.
The name of the limited edition is also intriguing. While it may initially seem confusing, the “333” moniker likely refers to the metric horsepower output of the vehicle. This translates to a whopping 245 kW of power, making it even more potent than the already-impressive “standard” R trim, which puts out 235 kW of power.
Under the bonnet, the Golf R 333 Limited Edition will most likely feature the same beefy 2,0-litre EA888 turbocharged engine found in the standard Golf R, but with a more powerful tune. This will allow the vehicle to achieve a 0-100 km/h sprint time of just 4,6 seconds, a 0,2-second improvement over the base model.

Other features teased in the video include black “333” side decals, black 19-inch Estoril alloy wheels, and a quad-tipped Akrapovic titanium exhaust system. The bright blue R callipers and cross-drilled brakes hint at the vehicle’s high-performance capabilities. With its eye-catching exterior, impressive power output, and top-of-the-line features, the 2023 Volkswagen Golf R 333 Limited Edition has all the right gear to shake the hot hatch segment a little bit.
