The Volkswagen ID.4 GTX has been revealed as Wolfsburg’s first all-electric performance vehicle aimed at speed freaks who want to lower their carbon footprint on the planet. The reveal of this derivative comes after the ID.4 claimed World Car of the Year victor for 2021 and was awarded a five-star rating by the Euro NCAP.
The Volkswagen ID.4 GTX retains its SUV proportions but turns up the performance with a dual-motor all-wheel drive system that produces 220 kW which gives it a claimed 0-100 km/h time of 6,2 seconds. This is just 5 kW down on the power output quoted in the recently revealed ID.6. The all-wheel drive system is automatically adjusted for when extra traction is needed but under normal driving conditions, it remains rear-wheel driven. Power is sourced from a 77 kWh battery which provides it with a range of 480 km. Top speed has been electronically limited to 180 km/h.
Giving it a sportier visual presence, the Volkswagen ID.4 GTX sits on a set of 20-inch alloy wheels which can be optionally upsized to a 21-inch set. This houses a set of 358 mm brake discs on the front axle and brake drums on the rear. At an additional cost, Volkswagen will lower the ride of the ID.4 GTX by 15 mm via the sports package.
Three-point honeycomb LED lights positioned vertically have been applied to the foglamp cluster (as similarly found in the new Golf GTI) which is complemented by a gloss black grille and LED matrix headlamps. The rear’s sporty appearance is created by a bold LED taillamp cluster with a 3D effect.
Within the cabin of the Volkswagen ID.4 GTX, a heated steering wheel, 30-colour LED ambient lighting package, front armrests, a 10-inch infotainment system and split-folding rear seats are fitted as standard. Optional packages include a heads-up display with augmented reality for an improved navigation experience and the larger 12-inch infotainment screen.
