The Volkswagen T7 Transporter is due to be officially revealed fairly soon but some information regarding the historic van has been revealed by the manufacturer. Volkswagen confirms that the seventh-generation Transporter will come equipped with the brand’s dual-clutch transmission, exclusively. These details come after a recent teaser revealing the Volkswagen T7 Transporter’s interior was shared a week ago.
In order to maximise interior packaging, the Volkswagen T7 Transporter will do away with the traditional gear-selector and replace it with a set of buttons fitted to the dash, making the DSG a shift-by-wire system. The days of the manual gearbox for the Transporter have come to an end to ensure that the brand’s van offers as much space as possible.
Clever new feature means added space

“Generosity in the interior. We have taken out the gear knob. We’ve even cleared the space in the middle, assigned it to the driver. The new Bulli will be an exciting product. You can look forward to it,” Explains the Head of Design at Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, Albert Kirzinger.
The switches will fitted on the same level as the 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system for a more focused control management. Said screen will also act as a display for the new 360-degree area view option made available to the Volkswagen T7 Transporter.
Also removed from the cockpit is the floor-mounted manual handbrake. This has been replaced by an electronic button as found in most modern Volkswagen products. With this, space between the driver and passenger has been increased and allows for easier transitioning from the front to the rear section of the cabin.
Volkswagen has also confirmed that a new multi-function table for the rear section will also act as a centre console between the driver and passenger seat. Full details regarding this feature will be revealed in due time.
