Volkswagen has released a teaser video of what appears to be an upcoming Golf R Performance model, although details are still scarce at this stage.
The short clip uploaded to the Wolfsburg-based automaker’s global YouTube channel suggests that a new performance package will add a slightly different body kit to the standard version of the facelifted Golf 7 R, ostensibly with improved aerodynamics in mind.
The Golf R Performance variant also appears to feature an uprated braking system, a unique rear spoiler, a motorsport-inspired rear diffuser and what looks like a titanium Akrapovič exhaust system.
So, has the 2,0-litre turbopetrol engine also been suitably massaged? Well, the video suggests not, with a power figure of 228 kW (the peak output of the updated Golf R for international markets, although South African versions are likely to be detuned to 223 kW) appearing in the clip, along with an unchanged claimed 0-100 km/h sprint time of 4,6 seconds.
But it seems the R Performance model does raise the top speed from 250 km/h to 267 km/h.
The video also lists “shock absorber adjustment” and “steering adjustment” as features of the new derivative. Inside, the Golf R Performance model seems to feature plenty of faux-carbon trim.
So, when will we know more about this new package? Well, the video ends with the promise that these “performance options” will be “introduced at a later date”. And we’ll certainly be keeping our eyes open for more information.
