Volvo Cars has taken the wraps off new “performance-inspired” R-Design versions of the S90 saloon and V90 estate.
The R-Design package includes a sport chassis that the Swedish automaker says delivers an “energetic, road-hugging” drive, as well as “clearly visible performance styling”.
In short, the new package rivals similar products from Volvo’s German rivals (think BMW’s M Sport, Mercedes-Benz’s AMG Line and Audi’s S line trims), and will be positioned just below the recently revealed Polestar Performance models.
The R-Design variants feature new front-end designs, with spoiler-integrated foglamps and a unique grille, as well as piano black trim on both the front and rear. New five-spoke matte black diamond-cut alloy wheels complete the exterior updates.
Inside, Volvo promises a wide range of styling upgrades, including unique deco trim, alloy pedals, new mats, sports seats and a special steering wheel. An interior illumination package is also part of the package.
The S90 sedan is scheduled to arrive in South Africa towards the end of 2016, while the V90 estate is unfortunately not expected to be launched locally. R-Design versions of the S90, meanwhile, will become available in South Africa in 2017.
