Volvo has confirmed that its new flagship, the S90 sedan, will be launched in South Africa by the end of the year.
The car is built on the company’s scalable product architecture (SPA) platform, and uses a lot of the technology we first experienced in the current XC90 SUV.
The local introduction will start with the D5 AWD and T6 AWD models, followed by the D4 FWD, T5 FWD and R-Design variants in 2017. Buyers preferring the hybrid T8 Twin Engine will have to wait to possibly the latter part of 2017 for this model.
Standard on all the S90 models will be Volvo’s Pilot Assist semi-autonomous system. This system assists the driver on the highway at speeds of up to 130 km/h. However, for the system to work clear lane markings are obviously necessary.
Although Volvo Cars in South Africa can not, at the moment, confirm exact pricing details, the company did confirm that the range will be offered from around R650 000 to R900 000.
Sadly the V90 station wagon won’t be making its way to South Africa.
Look out for a driving impression of the new S90 in the coming days.
