Volvo is gearing up to unveil its newest addition to its SUV lineup; the all-electric EX30. The Swedish automaker teased the vehicle’s design in a new video ahead of its global debut on the 7th of June 2023, and the footage provides some enticing glimpses of the compact SUV.
Drawing inspiration from its larger sibling, the EX90 flagship, the EX30 looks chunkier and more playful. The teaser showcases some of the electric vehicle’s features, including split taillights, pixel-style headlights, and an overall surfacing design that looks bold and contemporary.
The compact footprint, proportions, and greenhouse of the EX30 bear a striking resemblance to the slightly larger XC40. The video also provides a sneak peek of the cabin, highlighting the vegan leather seats with a tiny Swedish flag. Although not much is revealed, the teaser offers a glimpse of a heavily creased bonnet side and striped DRLs.
According to Volvo CEO Jim Rowan, the EX30 will be a “really important” model for the brand. Rowan promised that the compact SUV will be offered at a “really nice price point,” while still maintaining Volvo’s reputation for safety and high quality. The EX30 is also expected to have a decent range and be of a good size, positioning it as an attractive option for younger buyers. To help reach this demographic, Volvo will focus on online sales and offer a new subscription-based ownership model with a three-month commitment. This approach is designed to appeal to the modern consumer who values convenience and flexibility.
