Porsche has announced a “model year changeover” for the Taycan Turbo S that will see the flagship all-electric car travel even quicker to 200 km/h.

Using the launch control function, the Taycan Turbo S will now sprint from standstill to 200 km/h in a claimed 9,6 seconds, which makes its some two-tenths quicker than before. The Zuffenhausen-based firm says it will furthermore cover the quarter-mile in 10,7 seconds, an improvement of one-tenth.

What else is new? Well, the four-door electric sportscar also gains a new “Plug & Charge” function (in some markets, anyway) that enables “convenient charging and payments without the need for cards or an app”. You simply insert the charging cable and the Taycan establishes encrypted communication with the compatible charging station.

In addition, the Taycan gains the option of a colour head-up display and an on-board charger with a charging capacity of up to 22 kW. In future, the adaptive air suspension will feature a “smartlift” function. The latter means the updated Taycan can be programmed so that it automatically raises in “certain, recurring sections”, for example at speed bumps or on garage driveways.

Interestingly, Porsche will soon also allow Taycan drivers to purchase various convenience and assistance functions – such as Power Steering Plus, Active Lane Keep Assist and Porsche InnoDrive – “as required”. Thanks to over-the-air updates, these functions can be added without the vehicle visiting a workshop.

The 2021 model year will also offer a selection of seven new exterior paintwork colours: Mahogany Metallic, Frozenberry Metallic, Cherry Metallic, Coffee Beige Metallic, Chalk, Neptune Blue and Ice Grey Metallic. Meanwhile, digital radio has been added to the list of standard kit.

A Carbon Sport Design package will furthermore become available on all Taycan versions, adding items such as carbon-fibre inserts in the bottom of the front section and in the side sill trims, as well as carbon-fibre fins on the rear diffuser.
