Yet another large American pick-up truck has been given a beefy 6×6 conversion. This time it’s the Dodge Ram 1500 TRX which gets its additional axle from Apocalypse Manufacturing. Dubbed The Warlord, this conversion will be made available to its local market with a price tag of $250 000 (approximately R3,7 million).
Giving it an extra pair of wheels, Apocalypse has fitted The Warlord with its custom tandem axle technology which is featured on its other Jeep-based 6×6 products such as the Hellfire, Doomsday and Sinister Six.
Joseph Ghattas, owner, engineer and head designer of Apocalypse Manufacturing says. “Our development and research really show on the handcrafted middle axle and custom frame we created by using bigger, beefier quarter-inch thick steel needed to complement the insane horsepower output. Its look and power separate the TRX ‘Warlord’ 6×6 from every other vehicle on the road today. This build is as impressive as they come and perfectly aligns with the rest of our Apocalypse catalogue of trucks.”
Boasting a supercharged 6,2-litre Hemi V8 under the bonnet, power remains unchanged at 523 kW and 882 N.m of torque which is distributed to all six-wheels via an eight-speed automatic TorqueFlite 8HP70 transmission. In standard-guise, the Dodge Ram 1500 TRX will accelerate from 0-100 km/h in just over 3,7 seconds and reach a top speed of 190 km/h. Apocalypse has not revealed how these extra parts affect The Warlord’s performance figures.
Keeping The Warlord stuck to the surface is a set of 37-inch all-terrain tyres mated to 18-inch wheels with a seventh spare set atop the bed. It also gets a number of unique badges such as a “WAR” moniker affixed to the tailgate.
All units will be put together at the firm’s manufacturing facility in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
