Anticipation for the latest Chevrolet performance model is building up and the latest explanatory Corvette Z06 video goes into detail about the exhaust tune that emanates from flat-plane crankshaft V8.
The Corvette Z06 will be the more brute version of the mid-mounted C8 model and its anticipated release has resulted in the Corvette Academy creating a short video about one of the models standout features; its exhaust note.
In the video, Cindy Molnar, a vehicle performance engineer for Chevrolet Performance Cars goes into detail about the system itself while Yoon Lee, a design system engineer further divulges what the intentions for the accompanying soundtrack was.
There is a fair bit of tech here that isn’t exactly commonplace in the world of internal combustion engines. Fortunately, visuals of the actual exhaust system accompany the words of Molnar and Lee for those that are visual learners.
This includes two sets of valves that adjust the exhaust note depending on their configuration. One is placed on the intake manifold and the other is a variable exhaust valve which allows for 2 degree incremental adjustments which translate into several exhaust notes to choose from. This is a novel feature considering previous iterations of exhaust gates were either set to be opened or closed.
The four exhaust modes that can be chosen from include Weather, Tour, Sport, and Track which all adjust the loudness according to setting so you can keep the peace in your neighbourhood. The most audible noise that the V8 can provide from the stock exhaust system is the Track mode which opens all of the valves to release the Corvette Z06 sound to its true decibel level.
The wew twin-turbocharged Corvette ZR1 test mule spotted testing a few months ago so Chevrolet have their work cutout for them and their brute American supercar.
