The best-selling bakkie in South Africa has been given a sporty touch by Toyota’s racing division. The latest 165 kW Hilux GR Sport has now been put under the limelight in a new advert. Watch here.
The Hilux GR Sport debuted just over two weeks ago and the recipe is simple: take South Africa’s best-selling bakkie and give it that Gazoo Racing touch. “The all-new Hilux GR Sport is fierce from all angles,” said Tasneem Lorgat, Senior Manager of Advertising at Toyota SA Motors. In addition to improved power of 165 kW, the bakkie shares Gazoo Racing-inspired touches with a redesigned front bumper, black grille, intricate red stitching and 17-inch alloy wheels.

The task to the creative team for the advert was to develop a campaign that shows how the GR-S version of the Hilux featured a whole new dimension of “toughness” by fusing it with performance. Featuring in the advert is also the Dakar champion Hilux which shares the same GR DNA, performing theatrics on a dusty off-road stage.
“Our plan was to take SA’s favourite bakkie and turn it on its wheels to attract our more adventurous customers. We wanted to show off the transformative power of the Hilux GR Sport in its all-new, extraordinary Gazoo Racing form,” said Tian van den Heever, ECD of FCB Joburg.
