Land Rover has taken the wraps off its new Range Rover Fifty, with the British firm confirming the limited-edition model will be offered in South Africa.
Conceived as a tribute to the original Range Rover that debuted some fifty years ago, just 1 970 units will be produced globally (in recognition of the year the original model was launched). The package will be offered in conjunction with petrol, diesel and plug-in hybrid powertrains.
The Fifty is based on the Autobiography trim level, but gains exterior accents in Auric Atlas as well as a choice of model-specific 22-inch wheel designs. The special model features a “Fifty” script “created personally” by Land Rover design boss, Gerry McGovern.
The script appears on the exterior of the vehicle as well as in the cabin (on the headrests, facia and illuminated treadplates). There’s also a “xx of 1970” plaque inside, depicting the particular unit’s unique build number.
The Range Rover Fifty will be offered in both standard and long wheelbase body styles, in a choice of four exterior colours (Carpathian Grey, Rosello Red, Aruba and Santorini Black).
In addition, Land Rover Special Vehicle Operations will offer (in “extremely limited numbers”, it says) the Fifty in one of three Heritage exterior solid hues reproduced from the original Range Rover palette (Tuscan Blue, Bahama Gold and Davos White).
