The Toyota GR 86 was recently revealed as a coupe-only rear-wheel drive sportscar, like the model that came before it. Render expert X-Tomi has penned their vision on what this car might look like if the manufacturers opted to remove the roof once again.
In 2013, Toyota played with the idea of a convertible 86 with its FT-86 Open concept which never made it to the production line. Like the original concept, this render retains the original car’s 2+2 seating layout and frameless door design.
While the idea of a roofless 86 sounds exhilarating, like the previous generation, it’s unlikely to become a reality for the same reasons. Toyota believes that removing the roof of the 86 would compromise its overall mass too much and its initial development of the FT-86 Open was merely a design study.
