Toyota has released a teaser video for its new GR Yaris, giving us a hint of the upcoming hot hatch’s exhaust note and seemingly confirming it will feature all-wheel drive.
A prototype version of the Japanese firm’s new hot hatch was due to be revealed at Rally Australia in November, but the unveiling was pushed back after the event was scrapped due to wildfires Down Under.
The 24-second clip begins with the GR Yaris starting up, before “Master Driver” Morizo (that’s Toyota CEO Akio Toyoda to you and me) says a few words. The GR Yaris then launches off the line, with both its front and rear wheels sending gravel flying. Yes, it seems we’re looking at an all-wheel-drive hot hatch…
Of course, that lines up neatly with an earlier report out of Japan suggesting the GR Yaris would indeed ship standard in all-paw guise, with power coming from a turbocharged 1,5-litre three-cylinder petrol engine.
