Images seemingly showing the new Volkswagen Golf 8 GTI Clubsport Edition 45 have emerged online, suggesting an official reveal is around the corner.
Posted online by @CocheSpias, the three images show what appears to be a new anniversary model conceived to celebrate 45 years of the GTI nameplate. The original model, of course, debuted back in 1976 (remember the Edition 40 we tested back in 2016?).
While VW has yet to reveal any official information, the leaked photographs depict the special-edition front-driven hot hatch wearing the front splitter, rear spoiler and rear diffuser (possibly housing a tweaked exhaust system) of the Clubsport model, all finished in black.
The Edition 45 furthermore appears to ride on new black alloy wheels (complete with red accent rings), while also boasting the obligatory “45” decals along its flanks. No images showing the cabin have been leaked … thus far, anyway.
So, from what we can tell, the Edition 45 looks to be based on the GTI Clubsport revealed in October 2020 (a model VW SA says won’t come to local shores). It’s not yet clear whether this upcoming version will stick with the Clubsport’s 221 kW/400 N.m tune or offer yet more power from the familiar EA888 turbocharged 2,0-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine.
