New Volkswagen Golf 8 R: watch hot hatch post 0-100 km/h time…

By: CAR magazine

Wondering just how quickly the new Volkswagen Golf 8 R will complete the obligatory 0-100 km/h sprint test in real-world conditions? Well, wonder no more…

The folks over at Automann-TV has released a video showing the Wolfsburg-based firm’s apex hot hatch blasting from standstill to three figures. And the results are pretty impressive.

Despite the test taking place in damp conditions using winter tyres, the all-paw Golf R rocketed from zero to 100 km/h in just 4,4 seconds, a full three-tenths quicker than claimed.

With the throttle pinned on the autobahn, the fresh-faced hot hatch reached 200 km/h in 15,9 seconds. Separately, the driver managed a 100-200 km/h time of 11,5 seconds.

As a reminder, the new Golf R generates 235 kW and 420 N.m (the latter from 2 100 to 5 350 r/min) from its familiar EA888 turbocharged 2,0-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine, delivered to all four wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. According to the German firm, it’ll top out at 250 km/h (or optionally 270 km/h).

Volkswagen SA says we can expect the new Golf 8 R to hit the local market in either the final quarter of 2021 or the first quarter of 2022.

Watch the video below to see the 0-100 km/h, 0-200 km/h and 100-200 km/h tests and head over to Automann-TV ‘s YouTube channel to check out his night drive of the new Golf R…
