A recent article published by Carlos Cristofalo via Motor 1 Argentina, states that the new VW Amarok will only be manufactured in South Africa.
As reported by The Citizen, Ford’s Silverton Plant outside of Pretoria will be the only factory assembling the new car. Wolfsburg’s Latin America President confirmed this to clear up any misunderstandings.
Pablo Di Si told motor1.com Argentina that some of the money will be used in 2024 to redesign the first-generation Amarok, which will still be made at the same plant for a while.
“The redesign has already been defined and I can tell you that it is very balanced: neither very aggressive nor not very aggressive,” the statement read in translation.

Since Ford and Volkswagen have been working together for three years, Di Si says that the new Amarok uses the same T6.2 platform as the new Everest, Ranger Raptor, Ford Ranger, Bronco, and Bronco Raptor, won’t be made or sold in Latin America.
Before, the Amarok was made by both General Pacheco and Hannover Commercial Vehicle. Ironically, General Pacheco made models for South Africa, while Hannover Commercial Vehicle mostly made cars for Europe.
South Africa will be one of only three places in the world to get the second-generation Amarok by the end of this year. The other two are Austria and Luxembourg. Latin America will be able to get it next year. Soon, we should know the final specifications and costs.
