Yes, it looks like the rumours were true. The next-generation Mercedes-AMG A45 will be offered in two forms: a so-called “standard” model (although we suspect that’s not an entirely appropriate word) and an S-badged version with an even higher output.
These, of course, will slot in at the very summit of the A-Class range, above the 225 kW Mercedes-AMG A35 revealed at the Paris Motor Show late in 2018.
According to Autocar (which recently enjoyed a ride-along in a prototype), the upcoming second-generation hyper-hatch’s turbocharged 2,0-litre four-cylinder engine will be available in two states of tune. The A45 will deliver 285 kW (up on the outgoing model’s 280 kW) while the A45 S will offer a whopping 310 kW.
Both versions will reportedly employ a new, sophisticated version of the Stuttgart-based brand’s 4Matic all-wheel-drive system (complete with a dedicated drift mode), along with an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission.
