The Nissan GT-R has been around in its current R35 format for almost 14 years now, and fans are crying out for an all new version. According to certain Japanese media sources, that is likely to happen towards the end of 2022, but for now Nissan is biding time with yet another mild upgrade for the current Nismo model.
Meet the 2022 GT-R Nismo, which was revealed in Japan today along with a special edition model. Not much changes on the regular Nismo variant, apart from the availability of a new Nismo-exclusive, motorsport-inspired Stealth Gray exterior colour, and the fitment of Nissan’s new logo, first seen on the Ariya electric car.
However, the special edition does gain some seriously cool new features, such as a clear-coated carbon fibre bonnet, which shaves 100 grams off the car’s kerb weight. The edition also sports a set of model-exclusive 20-inch Rays alloy wheels with red accents that match the garnishes found around the car’s body.
Both cars are powered by the same VR38DETT 3,8-litre V6 engine, featuring twin-turbochargers straight from the GT3 race car. Outputs remain as per the previous Nismo models, with 441 kW of power and 652 N.m of torque.
The built-to-order special edition does however gain a few high-precision, specially weight-balanced parts, dialled in with higher tolerances to improve engine response. These include the valve springs, piston rings, conrods, crankshaft and flywheel.
The braking system in both 2022 cars is carried over from the previous models, and features Brembo callipers and carbon ceramic discs, which measure at 410 mm at the front and 390 mm at the back.
But will we ever see the Nismo special edition in South Africa? Our contact at Nissan SA says “not in the immediate future”, which is better than a “no” we suppose…
