Nissan has revealed its new Navara Off-Roader AT32 double-cab pick-up, partnering with the folks over at Arctic Trucks to create what the Japanese brand bills as “the most capable Navara ever”.
The upgraded bakkie’s standard features include a bespoke suspension system that hikes ride height by 20 mm (to 243 mm), full protection of key underbody components (engine, transmission, propeller and fuel tank) and chunky off-road tyres. The 2,3-litre turbodiesel engine, however, remains unchanged.
Optional extras, meanwhile, include a snorkel (to improve wading depth some 200 mm to 800 mm) and a front differential lock.
Nissan says the suspension kit improves the Navara’s maximum approach angle to 35° (from 30,4°) and breakover angle to 24° (up from 22,2°). Overall vehicle height increases by 40 mm thanks to the suspension and larger tyres.
You’ll also likely notice the Off-Roader AT32's wheel arch extensions, which Nissan says were designed to “amplify the new taller stance” and offer greater protection of the bodywork during off-roading.
The 17-inch alloys are in-house items from Arctic Trucks, while the 32-inch tyres wrapped around them apparently “improve off-road traction while maintaining excellent on-road performance”.
In February 2018, Nissan applied to trademark the “Navara Off-Roader” moniker with the European Union Intellectual Property Office, leading to speculation that the brand was planning a rival for the Ford Ranger Raptor.
