A fresh report out of the United Kingdom suggests that Peugeot is preparing to introduce a coupé-style SUV that will see the 4008 badge revived.
According to Auto Express, the French automaker will introduce the newcomer in early 2020 in a bid to take advantage of the new, so-called “coupé-SUV” niches created by the likes of BMW and Mercedes-Benz.
Peugeot CEO Jean-Phillipe Imparato told the British publication that there would soon be “other things” to come from the Paris-based brand’s SUV line-up.
“Remember when we said two years ago we would launch five new SUVs in the coming two years? We did it: three in Europe and two more in China. It’s time to come back to our DNA, and then we will maintain the growth of our SUV range in the future because the market is strong,” Imparato told Auto Express.
The report suggests that the 4008 will be based on the 3008 (and thus run on the EMP2 platform), but with sleeker exterior styling and the obligatory sloping roofline. Auto Express says the new 4008 will boast model-specific LED daytime running lights, a more aggressively styled front grille and a one-piece light bar round back.
While the report adds that the new 4008 will pilfer much of its cabin design from the 3008 (and still be able to seat five), it says a “unique suspension set-up” and a lower driving position will lend it a more entertaining drive.
