It has been almost two decades since hit MTV show Pimp My Ride first graced screens but this isn’t a nostalgia trip; Pimp My Ride is back! This time around though, it will be British and be done in partnership with eBay.
The year is 2004, Snoop Dogg’s rendition of Riders on the Storm plays as Need for Speed Underground 2 comes to life on a PlayStation 2. A console game where customizability is endless and inspiration for wild colours and bold vinyls are derived from hit pop show Pimp My Ride. The premise of the original MTV entertainment show is quite simple: American rapper Xzibit sources dilapidated cars of all shapes and sizes before putting them through an extravagant makeover and presents the final product to the owner and TV audience.
The reboot of Pimp My Ride follows a similar theme to the original noughties makeover series but with British flavour this time around. Hosting the show is Lady Leshurr, a British rapper that will carry the new six-part series on MTV UK’s YouTube channel with the first episode airing on Friday the 19th of August. No West Coast Customs at the helm of the projects but the renowned Wrench Studios should do the job just fine. Hamid Iqbal, CEO of Wrench Studios stated: “We grew up watching Pimp My Ride. Doing jobs on our own cars on the driveway is what got us into custom work and modifying. It’s been 15 years since it was last on air and we’re going to make sure it lives up to expectations.”

From what we can see, the six-part Pimp My Ride series has managed to source a spectrum of different vehicles including a fair looking 1966 Volkswagen Beetle, 1992 Mitsubishi GTO and Citroën C1. The show will follow the same methodology of its antecedent with “some of the worst whips in the UK” getting some VIP treatment. If you’re happy about being thrown straight back into the mid noughties you’d be happy to know the original soundtrack has even been carried over!
